PODIATRIST DISCUSSES BENEFITS OF THERAPEUTIC LASERS
posted: Sep. 29, 2023.
According to Conway McLean, DPM, "The benefits of medical lasers are not due to heat. This technology produces minimal warmth, even with repeated use, consequently they are referred to as cold lasers. The therapeutic effects are the result of altered cell biochemistry, due to a process which might be compared to that of photosynthesis in plants. Lasers of a lower intensity were found to have greater benefits for pain relief and healing."

"Differing wavelengths of light have been tried over the years, with today’s devices unable to cause harm or complications (when used appropriately), which is a wonderful attribute for a treatment modality. Not only is LLLT, Low Level Laser Therapy, incapable of causing harm, it is a very holistic approach, stimulating the body’s natural healing processes. Instead of altering or disturbing some process in the body, as do many drugs, these low level lasers aid in the process of healing by making the “injured” cells healthier. This occurs via several mechanisms, one being an increased production of the unit of energy utilized by cells (ATP)," says Dr. McLean.
