There’s a new pandemic trend afoot: “Flintstone feet”. It can happen after months and months of working at home barefoot or wearing flip-flops. Ligaments stretch out, arches begin to fall, and putting on anything with a heel can be a pain. It’s named for the classic cartoon about a prehistoric family living before shoes were invented.

Dr. Vanessa Barrow

And it’s becoming a problem, said Vanessa Barrow, DPM, owner of Sole Aesthetic, a private practice in Bellaire specializing in regenerative and aesthetic medicine of the foot and ankle. “No one is getting into heels right now. People are at home barefoot all day or in flip-flops, and when they try to do something rigorous with their feet, they are getting tendinitis and plantar fasciitis.”
