SWEATY FEET - CAUSE AND TREATMENT

Hyperhidrosis, also known as sweaty feet, is a condition that may be a serious problem for some individuals - this can be embarrassing and uncomfortable. It is important to note that there are many sweat glands on our feet in comparison to the rest of our body the reason is to regulate skin temperature and keep skin cool during the hot summer months or weather. Feet have about 250,00 sweat glands and it is normal to sweat however when it is excessive it can be problematic and embarrassing.

Some individuals can acquire this condition through genetics or through stress on the feet. However, it is manageable.

Some ways to deal with sweaty feet or hyperhidrosis is to use medications, drying solutions, electrical stimulation (ionotophoresis) and botox injections.

Some ways to control and manage sweaty feet if they have an odour as well is to wash your feet with an antibacterial soap, apply cream and use absorbent foot powder in your footwear. Rotating footwear and washing footwear and letting it dry out is also helpful. Wearing socks that have moisture wicking properties or those that are made out of wool, cotton or a mixture are also helpful. If you or a loved one suffers from this condition, it is important to see a Chiropodist for further tips. Contact us today at Academy Foot and Orthotic Clinics.
