ACADEMY FOOT CLINIC SHARES AN ARTICLE WHICH STATES THAT PREVENTION OF DIABETES IS CHEAPER THAN A CURE

Nearly every table was full Saturday at the PACCAR Medical Education Center as people gathered at the first Diabetes Expo. As part of Diabetes Month, officials at Adena Health Systems hosted more than 100 people to learn more about managing the condition. Dr. John Boyle, a podiatrist at Adena, gave free evaluations Saturday for those who attended the event. While diet and exercise are important in the management of diabetes, he said the health of a patient's feet are as well."Patients with diabetes are at risk for loss of sensation in their feet. When that happens, that puts them at risk for injury and infections that could go unnoticed," Boyle said.

Boyle recommends that patients with diabetes look at their feet or have someone do it for them everyday. "It's easier to keep out of trouble; prevention is easier and cheaper than a cure," Boyle said.

Dr. John A. Hardy's Toronto foot clinic, Academy Foot and Orthotic Clinics has a special interest in the care of diabetic patients and in particular, keeping them healthy and preventing unnecessary amputations through regular foot care and custom orthotics.

If you or a loved one would like to experience the 'Academy Foot and Orthotic Clinic difference', please do not hesitate to contact us at 416-465-8737.  Please remember, that in Ontario your Chiropodist is one of your best defences against unnecessary foot amputations due to diabetes.  Last year there were over 1,700 foot amputations in Ontario of which 85% could have been prevented had these patients been seeing a Chiropodist.
