THERAPEUTIC ULTRASOUND CAN HELP DECREASE PLANTAR FASCIITIS PAIN

A new study in the Journal of Foot and Ankle Surgery reports that therapeutic ultrasound has been found effective in patients with plantar fasciitis and helps reduce pain and inflammation.

Modalities such as interferential current therapy, TENs, low volt laser therapy and ultrasound are some that are used daily to treat plantar fasciitis pain. These methods are especially important for patients who are failing to respond to conservative options including: stretching, icing, tennis ball rolling and massage.

The study focused on the effectiveness of reducing the pain in regards to just an intense therapeutic ultrasound regime. The study included 33 patients who received two ultrasound treatments and the goal of the study was to reduce pain by 25% or more. It was found that pain was reduced in these individuals.
