STEPHEN PRIBUT STATES, "IT MAY SEEM A MINOR IRRITANT, BUT LEFT UNTREATED ATHLETE'S FOOT CAN CREATE SKIN FISSURES THAT MAY BECOME INFECTED.  ONE SURE SIGN OF INFECTION: OOZING PUS.  INSTEAD OF GOING BAREFOOT AT THE POOL OR PUBLIC SHOWERS, WEAR FLIP-FLOPS.  AS FOR HOT WEATHER WORKOUTS, YOU MAY THINK COTTON SOCKS ARE BEST - BUT THEY ARE NOT.  OPT INSTEAD  FOR 'WICKABLE' FABRICS, MADE FROM SYNTHETIC FIBERS OR MERINO WOOL, THAT ALLOW MOISTURE TO MOVE AWAY FROM THE SKIN.  (IF YOU PREFER COTTON SOCKS,MAKE SURE THEY'RE CLEAN AND TAKE THEM OFF RIGHT AFTER YOU EXERCISE.)  AS FOR SHOES FOR WORKOUTS AND GENERAL USE, CHOOSE THOSE THAT ALLOW YOUR FEET TO BREATHE.  AFTER A WORKOUT OR A SWEATY WALK FROM THE POOL, THOROUGHLY WASH AND DRY YOUR FEET, ESPECIALLY BETWEEN THE TOES."
